ENGLAND 171 (45.4) SOUTH AFRICA 165 (47.4)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH RAVI BOPARA
After Andrew Strauss won the toss, they lost the captain and Kevin Pietersen to lurch to three for two after one over. England recovered only briefly from a wretched start on the way to 171 all out in 45.4 overs against South Africa. Shocked by defeat against Ireland in Bangalore four days ago, England badly needed to bounce back here to keep them on course for a quarter-final place.
England has bowled out South Africa for 165 and has won the match by 6 runs. The bowling performance was simply brilliant and almost every bowler chipped in with a wicket. Broad was the strike bowler for the Poms taking 4/15 in 6.4 overs. For South Africa, it was only Amla who scored 42 and after he perished, the rest of the batting order looked in trouble with the amount of spin the bowlers were getting. This was a very good performance from the English men after their disappointing loss to Ireland.
