Singaporeans are lavishing a lot on their new home. "Only the best will do" seems the watchword as we buy expensive rosewood dining tables and crystal chandeliers. And yet, when it comes to inviting people home for a meal, guests end up eating off plastic or paper plates and sometimes even plastic cutlery. It just makes no sense!
Yes, the food, how it tastes, is vitally important. But how the food is presented, whether guests are comfortably seated and eating off porcelain or stoneware, using, if not silver cutlery, at least handsome stainless steel implements, is equally important too.
Here you will see visually exciting yet quite simple table settings. It is mainly the use of color, the contrasts of different textures -- smooth tableware on coarse linen -- that enhances the whole table.
